Pictures
November 2, 2007 on 11:06 am | In Animals, Photography | No CommentsHaven’t been much for posting this summer, and I’m still not in a writing mood so here’s some photography!
When I am out of town doing field work, this is how I play electric guitar in my hotel room without an amp. Guitar -> Pedal -> Line in to MP3 player -> Line out to headphones.
A nice picture of my car somewhere between Nanton and Chain Lakes.
Labrador Tea flower.
Iced tea, specifically Labrador Tea. From an early morning in Fort McMurray.
A funnel shaped spider web covered in dew.
And early morning sunrise in Whitecourt.

This leaf had the life sucked out of it, now it’s half ghost.
The old man’s beard.
Found at an old hunter’s cabin up north.

Unveiling
November 14, 2006 on 4:16 pm | In Photography | 2 CommentsAlmost this whole long weekend I’ve been working on my new photo gallery. I already had a gallery that was more of a place to dump lots of pictures, more of a filing system than anything else. Now there is an additional gallery that just shows some of my better pictures in a slick design with titles and descriptions. Click the pictures for the description. Check it out and witness it’s operation, there is a tab above for it. It might be best to press F11 to fullsize your browser.
The gallery doesn’t use any Flash, just Ajax. I had huge problems embedding Gallery2 into this Wordpress site because of having to merge two CSSs and making things mesh. I think the end result was worth it though. Although it’s easy to have a neat Flash photo gallery, it blocks search engine bots from spidering your images.
At times the Gallery2 program can be slow on my server for some reason. If anything goes wrong just click reload (refresh).
The story of the spider and drag0nfly
September 7, 2006 on 7:11 pm | In Animals, Photography | 1 CommentSometime in August I was on a walk with my Uncle, Dad, sister and the dogs up along Allison Creek. I crossed the creek and close to the weir on the creek I almost walked through a spider web. I probably would have walked through if it wasn’t for the spinning mass infront of me. Upon further inspection I saw that a huge spider had managed to catch a fair sized dragonfly in it’s web. I borrowed my Dad’s camera and snapped a few shots and made a short video. So if you’re not afraid of spiders, peer behind the fold…

Fake model
July 1, 2006 on 6:06 am | In Photography, Favorite | 2 CommentsI took this picture of Ljubljana, Slovenia while climbing down from the city’s castle. I modified (photoshop) the first picture to look like it’s a small scale model, like something you would find along a toy train set. The trees look like they are made out of lichen and the buildings have a plastic appearance. The second picture is the original.

Whyte Ave Hockey Hooligans
May 30, 2006 on 11:25 pm | In Life, Photography | No Comments
I live in the center of the Whyte Ave party zone and when the Oilers took the western conference champions title on Saturday, 30000 people descended upon the area. Looking out my window you could see lots of people climbing all over the building accross the alley from me and a couple of people atop the Southpark car dealership sign, about 30m tall, waving Oilers flags around. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to sleep for a while from all the noise so I went out with my camera and took lots and lots of pics and vids. I put the best ones up in my Gallery here. I think most of the troublemakers were just out for the destruction and aren’t really hockey fans. It seems almost the whole city is sickened by what happened here Sat night. Windows were broken, 2 phone booths were knocked down, and almost every street sign was torn up. People kept making bonfires in the street, then the firefighters would put them out from rooftops, then a couple of mins later anotherone would spring up 10 m west of the last one. That happened nine times.
I don’t know what’s going to happen the next time they play. I would suggest not having the games on the weekend. This isn’t going to end well either way, I’m forcasting more property damage, and/or police induced injuries.
Here is a movie of a phone booth coming down:
